When the sun looks down on me

I know that I promised not to do the cell phone photo thing again... so I lied. I promise that soon I'll actually take the time to properly photograph my work, I promise!

This is a piece that I just finished for my painting II class. Our first assignment for this semester was to draw inspiration from another artist, the artist I worked from was Francesca Sundsten. (you can find some of her work here: [link]) Now I wasn't really mimicking her, we definitely paint very differently, but her subject matter is all kind of weird and dream like.

I had a kind of vision while I was in a really hot bath that a sunflower grew out of my belly button, add that to being inspired by Sundsten and this is what I came up with. The lighter coloured background and use of the sky hues in the skin tone of my figure is kind of a homage to her, I drew those things directly from her work.

I really like this piece actually, and admittedly almost didn't do it since it involved painting myself nude. Cheers for bravery! I'll put this up for critique as soon as I have a good photograph of it.
